Care after Combat is extremely pleased and proud to announce the appointment of David Rogers as its new Chair of Trustees. David has recently retired form His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) after 31 years’ service. His appointments with HMPPS included Deputy Governor at HMP Feltham, Governor of HMP Reading and HMP Winchester, concluding in the senior position of Head of Privately Managed Prisons. David has been involved with the charity from its inception in 2014 when he was Governor at HMP Winchester, helping shape Care after Combat and its services to veterans in the Criminal Justice System. He became a Trustee in 2016, and has acted as Treasurer to the Trustees for much of that time. On assuming the new role of Chair to the Trustees, David said:
“I am delighted and honoured to accept the role of Chair to the Trustees. We have a great team of Trustees and the charity, under the leadership of its CEO Adrian Kirk, will continue to grow and help support all those Armed Forces veterans who have become part of the Criminal Justice System. Our aim and focus is to help them, alongside HMPPS colleagues lead a crime-free life moving forward, supporting them both in custody and after release.”
David takes the reigns from Captain Stephen Anderson OBE Royal Navy who has been a part of the Charity since 2014 and took over the Chair to the Trustees from our co-founder in 2016. Instrumental in the formation of the Charity, Stephen has skilfully guided Care after Combat through challenging times to a position of great effect and stability, delivering critical services to some of our most vulnerable Armed Forces veterans. Stephen’s exemplary voluntary contribution has been all the more impressive given his continued active service with the Royal Navy, deployed on operations and in overseas posts, maintaining the highest level of input, direction and guidance to the Board of Trustees and the Executive Team. An outstanding Chairman, Trustee and friend to all, Stephen’s service to Care after Combat and, ultimately, to the veterans that the charity supports, is recognised by all – he is held in the highest esteem by everyone that has had the pleasure to know him. On leaving post after over six years as Chair, Stephen said:
“It has been both an honour and privilege to be part of the Care After Combat team, and to see the concept grow from ‘a good idea’ to one that continues to deliver well above its means. This would never have happened without the exceptional commitment, dedication, and determination of the co-founders JD and Goose, and Dr Nick providing the evidence to justify the why. Veterans in the CJS need help more than many, and with the majority of resource and funding going to the more fashionable military charities, I could not be more proud of being part of this success story. The Chairmanship is now in safe hands with David, and with the full-time employees and volunteer mentors delivering every day, I am certain the Charity will continue to deliver to this niche group of Veterans who do not get the regular support that the majority of others do.”
