From 14-16th July 2023, 500 Bikers, campers and charity supporters descended on the woods at Slates Farm, Market Rasen for a weekend of music and fundraising for Care after Combat.

The Backwoods Barn Jam was created in 2022 by Jake Newman and Grot Davis who, both inspired by their love of motorbikes and live music, wanted to create a festival drawing together people from across the country. Buoyed by the successful first year, and a perfect location to hold the ‘jam’, they opted to host the festival for a second year, this time choosing to support Care after Combat and make the event even bigger.

Despite the weather, the rain did not dampen festival goers’ spirits and they were witnessed rocking out to female fronted rock band Kaylyde, The Concrete Badgers, Spike from the Quireboys and Care after Combat’s own band the UK Hedz amongst other fantastic musicians. The event provided an excellent opportunity for artists and crafts people to showcase their work.

Jake Newman, organiser of the event said “We seem to have the perfect recipe for something really special here. A great niche, a great team, an amazing venue and a charity that has deep ties with our group making it very important to us all. The BBJ is a rising star on the festival circuit and we very much look forward to working alongside our friends at Care after Combat again.”

Adrian Kirk, CEO of Care after Combat said “I would like to say a big thank you to Jake, Grot and the team for choosing Care after Combat as their charity partners for this year. Without their determination and meticulous planning of the Backwoods Barn Jam, it would not have been the amazing event that it was. We would also like to extend our thanks to those that attended the event, engaged with us, cheered on the UK Hedz and took part in our fundraising activities. We are really pleased that we were able to raise some vital funds for the charity and are very grateful for everyone’s generosity, but we are equally pleased that we had a platform on which to raise awareness of Care after Combat and the life-changing and life-saving support we provide to veterans.  We look forward to taking things to the next level in 2024 with an even bigger Backwoods Barn Jam.’
