Hereford ‘Military Service and the Justice System’ Training: Afternoon
A specific package of veteran / justice system awareness training developed for all services including charitable services who may be involved working with UK military veterans:
The Training:
Potential links between Military Service and Offending Behaviour:
- Raises awareness of how military veterans might struggle to adapt to civilian life after serving in the armed forces and how, in some cases, that can lead to involvement with the justice system.
- Challenges commonly held beliefs or ‘myths’ that incorrectly link military service to offending behaviour and explore how that might adversely affect sentencing.
- Explains how the specific challenges that veterans in the justice system might face can differ significantly from non-veterans, especially around release from prison.
- Gives helpful examples of how best to provide support for veterans vulnerable to and who are involved in the justice system based on first-hand experience.
