The Henlow Golf Club made Care after Combat their chosen charity for 2025, and what followed was a brilliant year of creative events and community spirit!
Throughout the year, club captain Justin Adams, vice captain Claire Sturgeon, and the entire membership raised over £10,000 for Care after Combat whilst spreading awareness of our work supporting veterans in the justice system.
A Year of Remarkable Events
The club’s fundraising efforts were as diverse as they were successful. Events included an intense 26-hour snooker marathon that tested members’ endurance and commitment to the cause. Graham ‘Gravy’ Allison also organised and ran the hugely popular Pork Pie & Peroni day, combining great food with very generous support!
One of the standout events was the summer Par 3 competition, conceived by Justin Adams and sponsored by Mike Baxter. The competition was won by Neil ‘Flash’ Marginson, with holes-in-one carded by both Gravy and Claire Sturgeon.
The course was specially recut for the occasion, with volunteer members extending the pond hazard to increase fundraising through fines, adding an extra challenge and plenty of good-natured competition.
None of these events would have been possible without the dedication of Pete Blanch, the club’s general manager, professional, and groundskeeper. Pete provided exceptional hospitality and worked alongside volunteer members to adapt the course for special occasions.
A Heartfelt Thank You From Everyone at Care after Combat
Our relationship with Henlow Golf Club in 2025 has been rewarding and genuinely great fun. By choosing Care after Combat as your charity, you’ve helped us continue our work providing one-to-one mentorship to veterans in the justice system.
The funds raised will directly support veterans during custody and for at least one year after release, helping them as they rebuild their lives and work to reintegrate into their communities. Beyond the financial support, the club’s efforts have also introduced our work to a wider audience, raising awareness about the challenges some veterans face and the support that is available to them.
We wish club captain Justin Adams, vice captain Claire Sturgeon, and all the members the very best in your future golfing endeavours. We would be incredibly keen to engage with you again and are grateful for the partnership we’ve built together.
Your efforts will help change lives, and that’s something truly worth celebrating.
