SUNRAY TWOSIX: A Veteran-Led Journey to Scotland’s Most Isolated Communities

Home 9 News 9 SUNRAY TWOSIX: A Veteran-Led Journey to Scotland’s Most Isolated Communities

This June, a team of Royal Navy and Royal Marine veterans will take mental health conversations directly to some of Scotland’s most isolated communities.

SUNRAY TWOSIX is a veteran-led wellbeing journey travelling from Loch Lomond to the Outer Hebrides and then on to Edinburgh. Along the way, the team will meet veterans who may otherwise feel overlooked and create spaces for open conversations about mental health and belonging.

At the heart of this journey is a simple message: Share the Light

What is SUNRAY TWOSIX?

SUNRAY TWOSIX is a mission to bring peer support and conversation directly to veterans in Scotland’s most remote communities. The team comprises ex-service men and women who, having each faced their own struggles after military service and found a path forward, now aim to share a message of hope with others.

Originally, the journey was to be led by Phillip, a restored 1936 Morris Eight, a powerful symbol of service and shared history. After unexpected mechanical issues, Phillip has been stood down from active duty. Stepping in is Philippa, a Mini Cooper convertible. Philippa may look different, but she’s ready to carry the same message of hope and connection across Scotland’s remote communities!

Over the course of the journey, the SUNRAY TWOSIX team will travel through communities including Barra, South Uist, North Uist, Harris, Lewis, Skye, and Fort William, creating informal spaces for connection and peer support.

Capturing Stories and Spreading the Impact

The team is collaborating with Palpa Films to document the expedition and capture the authentic stories of resilience and camaraderie that emerge at each location.

These stories will help bring the message of veteran wellbeing to a wider audience, bringing both the challenges and strengths within the community to light while sharing an uplifting narrative of hope.

The Journey Timeline

The tour begins at Loch Lomond on 1st June 2026 and concludes in Edinburgh on 20th June 2026 at Napier University’s Craiglockhart Campus, joining the SVWA Big Day Out, a fun family celebration for veterans, serving personnel, and their families.

The final journey includes a visit to the Commando Memorial, honouring those who lost their lives and reflecting on the journey’s impact.

Why We’re Supporting SUNRAY TWOSIX

Care after Combat’s mission is to support veterans in the justice system, individuals who may feel isolated or overlooked. SUNRAY TWOSIX aligns perfectly with this commitment. We’re supporting this project in several ways, including providing our transit van as a support vehicle for the team throughout the journey.

This initiative matters because many veterans in remote Scottish communities face barriers to accessing support, whether that’s due to geography or the stigma that still surrounds mental health conversations in military culture. By physically bringing a veteran-led team into these communities, SUNRAY TWOSIX removes some of those barriers and sends a powerful message: you’re not alone.

How You Can Support SUNRAY TWOSIX

Whether you have 30 seconds or 10 minutes, you can help amplify this message and reach veterans who need to know support exists:

30 seconds: Like and share posts about SUNRAY TWOSIX on Facebook, Instagram, or LinkedIn. Add a comment to show your support and boost visibility.

10 minutes: Create your own posts about veteran-led wellbeing, living in rural and island communities, supporting mental health and connection, or the SVWA Big Day Out. Personal touches make the biggest impact.

Every share, comment, and message helps reach veterans who might benefit from knowing that support is out there.
